Gina Rodriguez Fights for the Underrepresentation of Latinos in Hollywood

It’s always inspiring when celebrities take the time to fight for causes that are very important to them. Gina Rodriguez is leading the way to fight against the underrepresentation of Latinos in Hollywood.

After writing a powerful essay for the weekly American entertainment magazine, Variety, Rodriguez was applauded for bravely calling-out Hollywood and it’s lack of diversity. In her essay, she explains that Latinos contribute greatly to the movie market but are underrepresented on screen. “The fact that we are not seen on screen despite our vast contributions is devastating”. She also urges the various national networks of contributing to the inclusion: “It truly takes a village to make a change and I’m hopeful that more studios, networks and filmmakers will continue to help make the increased presence of Latinos on screen not just a hope but a reality.” Rodriguez wants Latino children to look up to people that look like them and that has the same background and culture as them. Movies can be a great source of escapism but it can also inspire you to do things you never thought possible. Watching an inspiring and leading Latino actor or actress in a movie is something that regrettably does not happen enough.
